As Nepal transitions into federalism, with the new constitution (2015), the first local election after 20 years will hopefully redistribute the power of governance at local levels. The first phase of local election in only three provinces (3,4,6) has taken place to allow time for amendment of the constitution before the next phase of election Provinces 1, 2, 5 and 7.

Understanding the Local Election Structure

Spatial Demarcation of local governance:
Country - Districts -- Local Units --- Wards

The above interactive map shows the outlines of each districts. There are altogether 75 districts. Each district can have multiple Local Units (LUs). These Local Units could be either Maha-Nagarpalika, Nagarpalika or Gaunpalika. Each Local Unit can have multiple number of Wards. Ward is the smallest local demarcation for governance.

The voting has finished and data is available for percent voting. The vote counting has also started.

The vote counting has started but has been plagued by slow counting, especially in bigger metropolitan areas! It is difficult to collect any consistent data based on district election outcome but working on it.

Getting reliable online data of the election results was very difficult through the Election Commission of Nepal. But, the local newspapers have done a commendable job, espcially Kantipur with its tractable update. I am still working slowly to update the map. Hopefully, I will complete it soon :)
